Gloucestershire Youth Wind Orchestra (GYWO)

GYWO is now recognised and one of the country’s top youth wind bands after performances at Music for Youth’s National Festival in 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014  2016 and 2018.  In April 2014, 2016 and 2017 the band represented Gloucestershire at the National Concert Band Festival finals where they were awarded a Gold Performance Certificates.  In July 2019 the band joined the youth orchestra and strings for a tour of Belgium.

Dedication

Students wishing to join should display a fun and committed attitude and be fully involved in the bands rehearsal and concert commitments.  An 8/10 attendance at rehearsals is required.

Statement for all County Music Groups regarding membership

Grades are only a guide to the level required.  More important is a strong commitment and positive attitude alongside good sight reading and general musicianship skills. Teachers may recommend students for a specific group but the Musical Director has the final decision to whether a student is ready for entry into an ensemble.  Once you have gained a place in one of the county music groups, you will be required to maintain a high percentage of attendance at rehearsals and concerts.  A place within an ensemble maybe withdrawn if commitment is deemed unsatisfactory. You can audition and join at any point throughout the year.  If a group is preparing for a concert or festival, you may be asked to wait a few weeks before joining.

Student led

GYWO is there for you.  You will be encouraged to make a positive contribution to the choice of music and your views and opinions can always be expressed through our student council.
