Working together to help your pupils and school

We are the main provider of music education services in the county, working with more than 70 schools each year, and funded by Make Music Gloucestershire, the county’s music education hub, to provide:

  • Whole Class Instrumental Teaching
  • Schools consultancy and support
  • Instrument hire
  • Performance opportunities for schools and individual pupils
  • Offer audition opportunities both in and out of schools for pupils to progress into county music groups
  • We can provide peripatetic teachers for small group tuition to help ensure continuation and progression opportunities for pupils in school
  • For one-to-one lessons or to generally search for tutors and other music services in Gloucestershire, use the Hub’s TouchBass tool (please note, we do not quality assure these tutors - there are guidelines and links to further information for choosing tutors on TouchBass)

We are one of the key partners in Make Music Gloucestershire, a network of schools, organisations and individuals working together to make sure music education reaches as many children and young people as possible, and makes a difference to their lives and futures.

We know that music can make a real difference to pupils, and to schools. In some cases, it can help to transform a school, and individual pupils aspirations and achievements. In a recent series of articles in Music Education UK magazine, primary and secondary heads told how music had helped with:

  • Attainment - raising aspirations, confidence, self-esteem and motivations and leading to increases in SAT and GCSE results among music-involved pupils
  • Personal/social development - helping with listening skills, team work, leadership skills and peer-based learning
  • Creative thinking - analysis, speculation, evaluation; providing skills and qualities needed for 21st century jobs
  • Inclusion - engaging vulnerable students, providing role models and a sense of direction and purpose for those not engaged in other forms of learning
  • Embedding learning and cross-curricular approaches - eg using rhythm to reinforce maths
  • School culture and marketing of the school - injecting new energy into a school, providing a sense of community and raising or even changing the school's profile in the community
