Help with costs
Free instrument hire
Young people entitled to free school meals or on low incomes are entitled to free instrument hire.
You will need to:
1. Receive lessons from a tutor supplied by a Local Authority or Academy School within the normal school teach day OR be a member of one of our County Music Groups
and
2. Currently have parents/pupils in receipt of one of the following:
- Free School Meals or Pupil Premium
- Income Support
- Income Based Job Seeker's Allowance
- Income related Employment & Support Allowance
- Support under part 6 of the Immigration & Asylum Act 1999
- The guaranteed element of State Pension Credit, provided they are not also entitled to Working Tax Credit, and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190, as assessed by Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC). (Where a parent is entitled to Working Tax Credit Run On - the payment someone receives for a further 4 weeks after they stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit - their children are entitled to free school meals. Children who receive a qualifying benefit in their own right are also eligible to receive free school meals).

Free access to music centres and county music groups
The Friends of Gloucestershire Young Musicians (FoGYM) provide funding to enable students experiencing financial hardship to access music centres and/or county music groups.
Who is this for:
- Students aged 5-18 who are resident in Gloucestershire and attend a Gloucestershire LEA school.
Families in need of financial support. Awards are means tested and applicants should be able to
provide relevant evidence of income. The gross income of the student’s family should be less than £27,000 pa.
Families where more than one child is already receiving music tuition would also be considered
where gross income is less than £32,000pa

Awards for Musicians help young people who want to learn music but are struggling with costs. Support includes bursaries; support for your first 1-1 or small group lessons following whole class tuition in school; and mentoring. Find out from the Awards for Young Musicians website
