GSWO Tour to Palanga, Lithuania. May 2019.

GSWO Tour to the Amber Winds Music Festival 16th to 19th May 2019. Palanga, Lithuania

Calling all GSWO Members and GM Staff (wind, brass, percussion).

THIS TOUR IS NOW FULL - PLEASE CHECK BACK WITH US FOR FUTURE EVENTS

The Gloucestershire Symphonic Wind Orchestra (and advanced GM adult members grade 6+ wind, brass, percussion) have been invited to attend the 2019 Amber Winds Festival in Palanga, Lithuania. Palanga is situated on the coast and is a purpose built tourist destination. In recent years the town has committed considerable effort and funding to cultural events including hosting the Lithuanian National Brass band Championships and their annual Amber Winds Festival.

Palanga is a very chilled and pretty place to visit and whilst there is not too much to do there are plenty of eating and drinking places and only a very short walk to a great beach and park.

GSWO has been invited to attend the festival. The bands involvement may take a variety of forms (depending on numbers) that could include:

  1. Joint performances alongside the Palanga Wind Band.
  2. Own performances outside if numbers attending allow a full band.
  3. Informal park jobs.
  4. Access to the festival and free time to explore.

Dates: The proposed dates for the festival are currently 16th - 19th May 2019.

Flights: There are direct flights to Palanga (about 2.5 hours) from Luton leaving very early (sorry) around 7am on Thursday and returning the morning of Sunday 19th May. The organisation in Palanga will book a 3 or 4 star hotel. Those attending will be responsible for their own insurance.

Cost and who pays for what? GM will book flights, transport and hotels etc and raise an invoice to those who wish to attend (so there is nothing to do at the moment). We envisage the tour costing around £300 - £350 (depending on hold luggage / instruments) and as a guide will break down approximately as follows:

Return flight approx. £100
Accommodation approx £40 per night per person
Return transport to and from Luton approx £50
Hold luggage or extra seat for bigger instruments approx. £50 - £100
Festival entry will be free
