The Friends of Gloucestershire Youth Orchestra would like to invite you to attend a picnic before the concert at 6.00pm on the grass outside Pittville Pump Rooms. BYO picnic and drinks with FREE ice cream provided by Unilever. All families/players/siblings welcome.

Gloucestershire Youth Choir

Music for Youth National Festival
Thursday 4th July. 

Following our highly successful Music for Youth Regional Festival in March, I am delighted to announce that Gloucestershire Youth Choir has been invited to perform at the MFY National Festival.  GM has been busy organising transport, timings and repertoire as well as spreading the word to the press and public about your success - well done!

Thursday 4th July.  Gloucestershire Youth Choir


All day event with rehearsal in the morning and performance at MFY between 16.30 and 18.30.

Rehearsal at Colwell Centre for the Arts           11.30 – 14.00 (to include a lunch break)

We will contact your school to obtain permission for your absence, but should you wish to inform your school of your absence this will certainly help.

Transport and cost
We have secured funding to cover some of the costs to attend and to keep the cost as low as possible for students. We will need to make a small charge of £15 per pupil to attend. Coach transport will be provided.

Supporters tickets and transport
Parents, friends and supporters can obtain tickets via the Music for Youth website (www.mfy.org.uk) or on the day itself.  Tickets usually allow access to all venues across the festival for the day you attend with multiple day passes also possible.  If you would like to travel with us by coach please email glosmusic@gloucestershire.gov.uk with the number of seats required (not including the performer) – these are limited and will be offered on a first-come-first-served basis. A charge of £10 per seat will be payable.

Cheltenham Music Festival (Wynton Marsalis in concert) at the Cheltenham Town Hall
Join the Gloucestershire Youth Jazz Orchestra combo and Gloucestershire Youth Brass Band (who are performing alongside Brass for Africa from Uganda) at the Wynton Marsalis Quartet concert.  GYJO combo are the pre-concert and interval live jazz entertainment in the Pillar Room. Gloucestershire Youth Brass Band

Brass for Africa & Wynton Marsalis
Cheltenham Town Hall.  Saturday 13th July.

As you are aware Gloucestershire Youth Brass Band has been invited to play alongside Brass for Africa from Uganda in a concert as part of the Cheltenham Music Festival. This concert will also feature the Wynton Marsalis Quartet. GM have been busy organising timings and repertoire and the final details are as follows:

Saturday 6th July

Rehearsal in Cheltenham (venue still to be confirmed)                                                10:00am – 12:00noon

Includes Meet & Greet session with Brass for Africa Musicians

Saturday 13th July

All day event with Brass for Africa

Rehearsal at St Gregory’s Church, Cheltenham GL50 3PR                    12noon – 3.00pm

Coach to Cheltenham Town Hall                                                          3.15pm – 3.30pm

Rehearsal in Cheltenham Town Hall                                                     4.00pm – 6.30pm

Dinner break                                                                                        6.30pm – 7.40pm

Concert with Brass for Africa                                                                8.00pm – 8.45pm

Wynton Marsalis Quartet                                                                      9.00pm – 10.00pm (approx.)

Concert dress

BfA have a uniform, predominantly black shirt with African Kitenje design. GYBB to wear all black (this means black shirt / blouse / top, black trousers / beyond knee-length skirt, black socks / tights, smart

shoes) with a splash of colour if you would like.

 Transport
Cheltenham Festivals will provide a coach to take the players from St Gregory’s to the Town Hall. Please make your own provision for getting to St Gregory’s and home again after the concert.

Music for Youth National Festival

As you are aware Gloucestershire Youth Brass Band has been booked into the MFY National Festival Fringe. GM have been busy organising transport, timings and repertoire, and the final details and itinerary are as follows:

Thursday 4th July

Rehearsal at Colwell Centre for the Arts           5.30 – 6.30pm

Friday 5th July 
All day event with a Royal Marines Band Service workshop and performance at the MFY festival fringe

Coach leaves Colwell                                       8.30am

Royal Marines workshop                                  11.00 – 12.00pm

GYBB performance                                          12.00 – 12.30pm

Coach leaves Birmingham                               2.00pm

Coach arrives Colwell                                      4.00pm
