All about our music centres
Go straight to a music centre microsite:
There's nothing quite like the experience of playing in an orchestra or
band. Making music with other people is fun, challenging and fulfilling
- you get to make new friends, improve your playing and perform on
stage.
What is a music centre?
If you'd like to have your first experience of making music in a group, then our music centres are the best place to start. You can also take lessons on
minority instruments such as bassoon, double bass and French horn, and
music theory, at some of our centres. Some of our centres also arrange trips to music events, masterclasses and lecture recitals.
Who are they for?
Everyone is welcome to our centres: you don’t have to be learning a musical instrument through Gloucestershire Music, and you don’t have to live near to a particular centre. There are groups and ensembles for all abilities, from beginner to advanced level, and no auditions are required. There are also a number of adult groups.
Our music centres are usually young people's first experience of making
music in a group: afterwards, they may choose to progress to one of our
main
music groups (which we call our 'county music groups').
How much does it cost?
A full year's membership of a group (or any of
our centres) is amazing value at just £99* (£105 or £129 for adult
groups), or
just £3 a week and covers membership of any number of groups. You can join
and pay online here, or download an application form
(available from our downloads section) and post to us along with your
cheque, at: Groups/Centres Memberships, Gloucestershire Music, Colwell
Arts
Centre. Derby Road, Gloucester GL1 4AD.
* It’s best if you start at the beginning of the school year, but
if you’re joining part-way through, we’ll reduce the membership for
each half term missed
