LEAP Ensemble join BMC senior groups

As a taster for our up-coming Out of this World! course on Tuesday 11th and Wednesday 12th April at Sir Thomas Rich's School, Richard Shrewsbury, George Kirkham and Jeremy Clay brought enthusiasm and inspiration to the sessions, resulting in fabulous music-making and smiles and laughter all-round. The students quickly settled into the rhythm of improvising over a simple two-note ground, and many found themselves improvising freely despite initial shyness! Liam Fleet (Bassoon) said:

"As someone aspiring to be a professional musician in the future, it was great to have the opportunity to play with and learn from advanced musicians. The amount we were able to achieve in just 20 minutes was astonishing, just by coming up with a few simple riffs and playing them over one another. It showed me that when composing a piece of music it can become something huge surprisingly quickly with only a few basic concepts."

The two-day course promises to be truly inspirational for students of Grade 3 ability and above, and will stretch and challenge even our more accomplished senior players, including those intending to pursue music at tertiary level. Culminating in a performance of Holst's Mini Planets (Matt Kingston) in an informal concert, we are looking forward to a fantastic collaboration with Birmingham Conservatoire and the Leap Ensemble.
