First Access Music Ensemble (FAME!)

Supporting your musical future

Dear Parent,

Young people throughout Gloucestershire have the opportunity to learn a musical instrument with Gloucestershire Music! (GM - the Local Authority Music Service).

Learning via whole class at school?
If your child is currently learbning to play a musical instrument at school, you will be sent a letter offering you the opportunity to continue at a music centre from April 2017.  Please see your school secretary of instrumental teacher.

Absolute Beginners
We often run courses for those young people wishing to learn a musical instrument.  Group lessons on string, woodwind and brass are offered at our two local music centres and will start again in September 2017.

If you already play a musical instrument it is definately worth attending one of the two centres below.

Brookfield Music Centre (Gloucester)
Sir Thomas Rich’s School.  11:00 – 15:00

Five Valleys Music Centre (Stroud)
Marling School Music Department.  11:00 – 15:00.  Follow yellow signs off main road to MUSIC EVENT.

Our Starter Courses
Our courses are designed to prepare your child for one of our two FAME Academies that take place at our Music Centres in Gloucester (Brookfield Music Centre) and Stroud (Five Valleys Music Centre). FAME is designed to give young instrumentalists, in their first year of learning, the chance to play in an ensemble and develop their skills.   Our course will give your child a fast track start preparing them to join the music centre of their choice.  Both of our music centres meet on a Saturday mornings (09:30 – 12:30) so you will need to be available to attend weekly during this time.  FAME runs from 10:40 – 11:15 each Saturday as part of the Music Centre's longer timetable.

If you wish to be put on a waiting list then please email me at  steve.legge@gloucestershire.gov.uk

Yours sincerely,

Steve Legge,
Extended Learning and Provisions Manager.
