Services for all schools and pupils

We can help you to enrich your pupils' musical education - whether you already work with us, or you'd like to start. If you'd like to offer instrumental/vocal lessons for your pupils (or add to your existing ones); enrich your National Curriculum lessons; arrange a workshop; or start a choir or group, we'd love to hear from you. Contact us to let us know about your ideas and to find out more about how we can help.

Instrumental and vocal lessons

We currently offer lessons, through schools or our music centres, in the following instruments:

Strings: violin, viola, cello, double bass
Woodwind: recorder, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone
Brass: trumpet, cornet, horn, trombone, baritone, euphonium, tuba
Guitar: acoustic, electric, electric bass
Voice: singing
Keyboard: electronic keyboard, piano
Percussion: drums

Your pupils will benefit from (see also the 'Why choose Gloucestershire Music' page for more benefits for schools):

Cost-effective tuition: Pupils usually take lessons in small groups in the early stages of learning an instrument, and later in pairs or one-to-one. Those who are identified by their tutors as having exceptional talent can benefit from additional support and should contact Steven Legge directly on 01452 330300.

Well organised programmes of study: Each pupil is given an 'instrumental teaching diary' which sets out the lesson timetable, records what a pupil has learned each week, and the targets that have been set for the next week, and documents any other information and advice from the teacher. Pupils and parents can add comments to the diary, making it a helpful link between school and home.

Continuous assessment and recognition of success: Beginner students can be award Bronze, Silver and Gold awards via their teacher.  These are linked directly to skills required via the Common Approach (FMS) and the national Curriculum in Music. Pupils are encouraged to take external examinations - such as the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music and Trinity Guildhall or Rock School exams, and our tutors will prepare pupils by following the appropriate syllabus. Our tutors will provide a formative and summative assessment through appropriate lesson planning.

Other support for schools

See the other pages in this section for more information about specific support for primary, secondary, special and independent schools, including online teaching resources, free concerts, workshops, support for singing activities, and our Wider Opportunities programme in primary schools.

Out-of-school activities - groups and bands

We provide out-of-school hours activities to enhance and enrich pupil's musical development through our groups and centres. Through these activities pupils become more competent musicians, able to work with others, to perform in front of an audience, and to understand and appreciate a range of musical experiences. We also offer a Summer Music School and a Young Musician of the Year competition.
