Why choose Gloucestershire Music for your pupils' instrumental/vocal lessons?

You may be wondering whether to choose a tutor/tutors through Gloucestershire Music. We know you have a choice - and that there are many fantastic tutors in the County. Why we think Gloucestershire Music is the best choice can be summed up in three words: quality, access and opportunity.

Quality

You can rest assured that the tutors who teach in schools and run our music centres and groups offer high standards of teaching. They are highly skilled musicians, receive ongoing professional development opportunities and monitoring and all are of course CRB cleared. Your pupils will benefit from:

Well organised programmes of study: Each pupil is given an 'instrumental teaching diary' which sets out the timetable, what they have learned each week, and the targets they have been set.
Continuous assessment and recognition of success: through our own Bronze, Silver and Gold awards and external examinations eg Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, Trinity Guildhall, Rock School.
Cost-effective tuition: Pupils usually take lessons in small groups initially and later in pairs or one-to-one.

Access

If you work in a primary school, you’ll probably already benefit from our Wider Opportunities programme of whole-class instrumental and vocal lessons. Between 2008 and 2011 it will provide every student at KS2 (aged 7-11) with the opportunity to learn a musical instrument for free.

We also provide a range of specialist tutors for one-to-one or small group tuition to more than 85% of all primary schools and 92% of all secondary schools in Gloucestershire. So if you’re looking for a tutor for regular lessons or a one-off workshop, our unique knowledge of local musicians means that we can quickly find a tutor that’s right for you. We’re continually building on this, through involvement in networks such as Gloucestershire Music Forum. In fact, some hard-to-find instruments are simply not taught by anyone else in the county.

Your pupils won’t have to search for instruments either, as we have a stock of more than 4,000 instruments available for hire at very reasonable rates – including those which are hard-to-find or can be expensive, such as bassoon and tuba.

Opportunity

Making music in a group, rehearsing and performing, and seeing music performed live are important factors in a young person’s musical – and personal – development. We offer workshops and concerts in schools, as well as out-of-school activities through our county music groups and our music centres, summer courses, and Young Musician competition. Many of our groups have represented Gloucestershire outside the county through tours, festivals and competitions and have been awarded national prizes.

We handle all enquiries, administration and staffing work including payroll, expenses and arranging cover for long-term absence of tutors.
