Free KS2 tuition - Wider Opportunities in Music
All primary schools in Gloucestershire have been benefiting from government funding to enable every child at Key Stage 2 (ages 7-11), over time, to learn to play an instrument or sing if they wish to do so. In Gloucestershire every Key Stage 2 class will receive 10 whole class instrumental and vocal sessions during this time.

Gifted and Talented
Each school is required to complete a list of ‘gifted and talented’ pupils in a range of subjects (including music). Once identified, pupils may be offered a range of opportunities to best develop their gift and talent.
There is no direct funding for gifted and talented music through the LEA. However, Gloucestershire Music is well placed to offer advice and direction locally, regionally and nationally.
Gifted learners are those who have abilities in one or more academic subjects such as Maths or English.
Talented learners are defined as those who have particular abilities in Sport, Music, Design or Creative and Performing Arts. It includes those who are vocationally gifted.
“Children and young people with one or more abilities developed to a level significantly ahead of their year group (or with the potential to develop those abilities).”Other skills such as leadership, decision making and critical/creative thinking are taken into account when identifying gifted and talented learners.
