A day in the life

I started my teaching career as a peripatetic instrumental tutor with Gwent Music Service.  I quickly learnt that through school based group tuition I could contribute significantly to the musical life of schools and the wider community.  My first job required me to teach in 21 schools in the south of Monmouthshire and to tutor at the local music centre.

Some twenty years on I still hold true to the belief that Music Services offer a unique and special service that provides and coordinates tutors in providing a quality musical experience to our young people.

My typical working day is split between working on behalf of our staff and schools and teaching myself.  Many a Tuesday evening is spent arranging the next jazz band arrangement for Maidenhill's Blues Brothers Tribute Band that I run on Wednesday afternoons.  After rehearsing a well known James Brown or Aretha Franklin hit I am straight into preparing the three fine young brass players at the school for their next concert, exam or test piece with the County Youth Brass Band, one of the many ensembles that Gloucestershire Music support.

Early on a Wednesday evening I am fortunate to teach two young trombonists through the Endangered Instrument Scheme and two students learning as a result of Wider Opportunities.  All four students also attend their local music centre on Saturday morning.

So you see, we offer a varied and quality musical experience on your doorstep.  Contact us now for further details.
